The Workforce Learning Link fully incorporates the Workplace Essential Skills video programs and workbooks to teach individuals in the Workforce Learning Link program sites basic 'workplace' skills needed for workplace success. As with the other components of the Workforce Learning Link, participants address their own employment and skills issues at their own pace.
The centerpiece of Workplace Essential Skills is the series of 25 half-hour video programs. The programs teach basic reading, writing and math skills in the context of real-life work settings. At the same time, important concepts such as making a good impression, employee dependability, making the most of introductory training and growing within the job are reinforced. Open-captioned videos of all Workplace Essential Skills episodes are now available at all Workforce Learning Link sites to accommodate hearing-impaired learners.
Complementing the video lessons are four student workbooks (Employment, Communication and Writing, Reading and Math) which include exercises, vocabulary lists, key points and tests. To enable students to apply what they have learned, Workplace Essential Skills provides a Web site containing interactive activities that are correlated to the videos and workbooks. An instructor's guide, which includes learning objectives and lesson plans, explains how to use the videos, workbooks and online lessons together.
