Mavis Beacon

In an ongoing effort to identify programs that upgrade workers' skills, Mavis Beacon is the latest addition to the Workforce Learning Link. Mavis Beacon is a dynamic and versatile typing instruction program that adapts to individual student needs at all levels. Students can improve their keyboarding speed and accuracy through customized lessons, speed tests and progress reports, dictation practice, and more. Engaging lessons in the form of arcade-style games reinforce skills and make learning fun.

Among the many program features are: the Adaptive Response Technology software which continually monitors student progress and automatically adjusts lessons to provide ongoing challenges; the on-screen and audio keyboarding instruction in English or Spanish (English lesson content) to support ESL learners; and the Teacher Resource Guide Binder which includes 26 lesson activities and 22 transcription and dictation exercises.

In addition to improving keyboarding techniques, accuracy, and speed, learning opportunities include building language and vocabulary knowledge as well as developing cognitive motor and motor-function skills.
