State Employment and Training Commission (SETC)

The mission of the State Employment & Training Commission (SETC) is to ensure that New Jersey meets the skill enhancement needs of workers, students, and those seeking employment. At the same time, the SETC is working to meet the demands of New Jersey's business community and economic development efforts.

The SETC provides the forum where individuals representing government, business, labor, and the general public can work together to create policy initiatives for the workforce readiness system. The SETC works with state and other government agencies to assure the implementation of agreed upon policies.

The SETC has moved forward on key policy initiatives designed to prepare New Jerseyans to succeed in the labor market and provide employers with a skilled workforce. These initiatives are the School-to-Work Opportunities Initiative, the One-Stop Career Center System, and Workforce Investment Boards.

The SETC is also working on a variety of issues involving the linkage between schools and the labor market. Due to the profound transformation of the labor market, the Commission believes that it is critical that school administrators, counselors, teachers, as well as parents are made aware of the skills that employers are seeking.
