Newark’s most historic buildings like the Haynes Department Store and the National State Bank are vacant, leaving them vulnerable to the elements. Newark also has its share of vintage homes, reflected in the designation of a historic district in Weequahic Park which is helping to preserve an early 20th century neighborhood.
