Paul
Robeson
On
October 21, 1998, a special two part series of NJN's
"Another View" focused on an African American
man who posed as a role model to many throughout the
world because of his professional achievements and his
love of life. Paul Robeson was a scholar and intellectual
who had one voice, heard in many different ways.
Throughout
his years in America and abroad, Robeson was faced with
racism; yet he was a political activist, and an ethnomusicologist.
With numerous essays and poems written by him, and in
honor of him, Robeson brought attention to the importance
of his African culture and political consciousness.
Although some denounced his strong beliefs, Robeson
kept to his commitment of fighting racism and attaining
freedom for all. To this day, over 100 years after his
death, he is remembered through his written words and
his effective actions.
