Learning
Link - The Workforce learning link
is an initiative created with the
DLO and Workforce Development and
NJN to provided job seekers with
instruction in reading, math, communication
and job search for lifetime skills.
Our segment will explore the stories
of 3 people who are using the WLL
to get on with their lives. The first
is an ex-offender who is using the
WLL program to help him fulfill his
goals of being a car technician and
ultimately strives to be an auto
engineer. Our second person is a
woman who was on welfare and now
has two jobs working in the healthcare
industry and food business. The third
person featured is a laid off field
engineer who used WLL to get new
skills and find a new career in the
casino slot machine industry. Along
with our three testimonials we will
hear from oneof the managers and
instructors from WLL.
Freedom
to Work - Every person being released
from prison has many difficulties
transitioning into the workforce.
Their criminal background, regardless
of what it is, always counts against
them when trying to find work. We'll
visit a mid-level prison where inmates
learn the skills and confidence they
need to find jobs on the outside.
And with the help of One-Stop Career
Centers around the state, ex-offenders
can find success and enjoyment in
their new careers. We'll meet one
ex-con who says he loves his new
job in the working world.
Career
Minute - Scans Competency: Basic
Skills
In this week’s career minute,
LISTENING and SPEAKING are two more
crucial basic skills. If you can
listen carefully, and speak well,
you'll make a good impression, and
that's a great entree to any career.
Jay’s
