Equipped
for the Future
Original
airdate: April 12, 2006
Equipped
for the Future - The Adult Learning
Center at Essex County College
offers adults the opportunity to
increase their knowledge and skills
in order to excel in the workplace.
Now, teacher/advisor Shadiquah Hordge
has added a new weapon to her teaching
arsenal. It’s called Equipped
for the Future and it’s receiving
rave reviews. Not only does the Equipped
for the Future program set standards
for adult learning and skills, but
it also offers a more practical approach
to teaching and learning. Instead
of a strictly textbook-based experience,
students work in a more “hand-on” atmosphere,
which fosters better understanding
and knowledge of real world concepts.
The
21st Century Abacus - In this,
the 21st century, when one goes
to interview for jobs, one thing
seems to remain fairly clear in
the process, "the
more well-educated one is, the more
likely it is that person will land
a better job." It's shown throughout
society with the increase in the
numbers of people seeking higher
education beyond high school through
our country's many colleges, universities,
trade schools, and adult education
centers, among other places. Today
we show you a program sweeping up
at adult education centers and other
educational places throughout the
nation. It's called "Equipped
for the Future," or "EFF." It's
a teaching method that's different
and very unique because it's more "hands
on" for the students than traditional
educational methods and curriculums
and has them dictate much of what's
going on and where the lesson will
go. Come with us as we go to the
Vineland Adult Education Center to
see EFF in action.
