NJN visited four community farmers markets in the Garden State with side trips to several farms, exploring the connection between people and local food and land, discovering the freshest produce, learning how it’s grown and, with the help of experienced chefs, demonstrating how to serve up the harvest of the Garden State in delicious meals. With a growing demand for local food, the number of farmers markets in New Jersey are increasing, offering a rich array of Jersey Fresh produce, artisan cheese from grass-fed cows, golden honey, eggs from free-range chickens, homemade bread, freshly baked pies, and so much more.
These visits are all part of NJ Fresh! which premiered November 9, 2010. In the first three programs, host Megan Gunning shops at the Hunterdon Land Trust Farmers Market, the Collingswood Farmers Market and the Burlington County Farmers Market and talks with several farmers and assists the chefs as they cook up special summer meals. In the fourth episode, guest host Barbara Seelig-Brown of Stress Free Cooking takes us shopping at the Sussex Farmers Market and then back to her kitchen where she puts together a delicious and nutritious harvest dinner that will inspire cooks and non-cooks alike.
