Golden Age of Dance (3513)
Thursday, February 11, 2010, at 7 pm;
Sunday, February 14 at 8 am

Photo of Natalia Alonso by Julieta CervantesPassionate pulsating rhythms resounding off the floor boards and walls piercing, energizing and stimulating the feet and bodies of hypnotically possessed dancers lured by the vibrant sensation of musical notes urging create improvisational dancers to meet the challenge of the

Golden Age Dance. This is the best way to describe the Palladium Era of the 1950s and ‘60s. The era in which Latin bands, like Tito Puente,

Tito Rodriguez and Machito took dancers, of different nationalities and cultures, to the ultimate dance euphoria, a level of social and spontaneous dance movements unmatched in the history of Latin music. Today, a new generation of Mambo dancers are reliving the Palladium era by performing exceptional dance combinations in partner work and group dances. This program features some of the best dancers of the modern era in a special tribute to the sensational dancers of the Palladium. Highlighted by the world famous dance company, Ballet Hispanico, the program is a visual journey of vintage footage adorned with outstanding performances taped at the Joyce Theater in New York. Tell your friends to watch this program but give them a warning: The music is captivating, the dancing is outrageous and you will not be able to sit still in your chair. This production was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
