Death Penalty '07
Show #1202
It’s been 43 years since there’s been an execution here, but, for most of that time, the death penalty in New Jersey has remained on the books. Now, however, a blue-ribbon panel has called for its abolition – for replacing capital punishment with life in prison. Public opinion polls show that the electorate favors abolition and Governor Corzine has endorsed it, but it will be up to the Legislature to change the law.
In this edition of Due Process, Sandra King traces the history of the New Jersey death penalty, and provides passionate voices from both sides of the issue. In the studio, Raymond Brown explores the study report with Commission Chair Rev. William Howard, former Superior Court Judge Dan Coburn and Morris Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll.
