Needle Exchange Redux
Show #1111
It’s a fight that’s been going on for years – with no success. But now, for the first time, needle exchange seems to have its best chance of passage in the Legislature. New Jersey is the last state in the nation to outlaw all distribution of syringes without a prescription. With strong support from Gov. Corzine – and Sen. Nia Gil leading the fight in the State Senate – New Jersey may finally be on the way to providing addicts with legal access to clean needles. Sandy King takes a look at how needle exchange works in neighboring Philadelphia, while Raymond Brown’s studio guests are Dr. Crystal Fuller, a Columbia University epidemiologist, and David Evans, head of the Drug-free Schools Coalition.
