The Public Advocate
Show #1107
New Jersey has had no public advocate since 1994, when Governor Whitman did away with the controversial office. But Governor Codey brought it back – and now Governor Corzine has named the first public advocate in a dozen years. He is Rutgers Law School Dean Ron Chen, a law professor and civil rights attorney who’s joined the Corzine Cabinet, charged with reactivating an office designed to “give voice to the powerless.”
In his first sit-down TV interview, Chen tells Raymond Brown and Sandra King that his priorities are providing advocacy for the children, the elderly, the mentally ill and the developmentally disabled.
