Domestic Violence: Oficial Response
Show #1011
It’s an all-too-familiar story: a woman claims abuse by a husband or boyfriend, gets a restraining order … and yet winds up the victim of assault, even murder, by the same man from whom she had sought protection. We look at the case of Erica Turner, an Irvington woman whose 911 calls were ignored for two hours. Just one week later, she and her baby were kidnapped at gunpoint. Do police take domestic violence as seriously as they should … or are women continuing to pay the price for official neglect?
Studio Guests: Forensic social worker and Rutgers School of Public Administration Professor Evan Stark and battered woman advocate, retired police lieutenant Anthony Winchatz, who is the Domestic Violence Response Team Coordinator for the Resource Center for Women and Their Families.
