2005 seasonLemon Law
Show #1006

Due Process takes stock of New Jersey’s Lemon Law. Sixteen years and millions of settlement dollars after its passage, it’s being hailed as one of the toughest in the country. It’s also become a big business for lemon lawyers. And though it’s made car buying less perilous … does it go far enough? We focus, in our opening mini-doc, on a recent Hudson County case where the misled buyer sued the car manufacturer to get a new truck and a cash award, too. The pros and cons of the law – and its application – in our studio segment with the acting director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Jeff Burstein, attorney Kevin McKeon, who defends car manufacturers, and Bob Silverman, whose practice is devoted totally to breach of warranty and lemon law cases for the consumer.
