Women
in Prison
Show
#1005
They’re
going to prison in greater numbers than
ever before. In New Jersey, that means
the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility
for Women. But what happens when they
get there? Are there rehabilitation programs?
Do they work? In our opening tape segment
we look at a writing workshop for women
prisoners, while, in the studio, Department
of Corrections Commissioner Devon Brown,
writing workshop founder Professor Michele
Tarter of The College of New Jersey,
and inmate advocate Wendy Lederman, of
the Association on Correction, debate the
complex issues raised by imprisoned women.
