Free Speech in Time of War
Shows #1001
and #1002
Initial Broadcast: February 20, 2005
In the opening program of the 10th Due Process season, we ask: should our First Amendment rights to free speech be abridged in time of war – and what is the impact of the current war? Sandy King gathers a wide range of responses from academic, judicial and legal experts meeting at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, under the auspices of Rutgers Law School-Camden. They include 1st Amendment litigator Floyd Abrams, US Appellate Judge Michael Chertoff, Historian Eric Foner and Law Professors Derrick Bell, Nadine Strossen and Earl Maltz. Raymond Brown picks up the debate in the studio.
