The Gang Threat (#915)
The murder rate is up; the Attorney General blames gangs.
Drug trafficking is out of control; again, the finger points at gangs.
Corrections officials say they may be gunning for police.
The US Attorney calls them our new organized crime.
Meanwhile, the Bloods and Crips in Essex County claim they are honoring a truce, a ceasefire.
So just how much of a threat are gangs – both in prisons and on the street?
In this edition of Due Process, we go inside one state prison to talk to former gang members, and to the streets, with a State Police expert, to look at gang graffiti. We hear from gang members, and see their truce-signing ceremony, and from state officials, who insist that the threat is growing and real.
