Show #2Masters on Mawbey Street – Recipient of the NEA Student Achievement Grant for 2007, Kristen Van Ollefen teaches her fifth graders at Mawbey Street School in Woodbridge how to compose, conduct and perform a musical. The students use The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe as an inspiration for their composition. For more information regarding the NEA Grant, go to: www.neafoundation.org.

Project STEAM – Linwood Middle School technology students research how various games are developed, designed and marketed. The classroom creates miniature golf and underwater robotic games. They use Digital Imaging and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) to complete the designs. This program is funded by a grant from the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education.

5 A Day – Second graders at Whitman Elementary School in Turnersville work on becoming healthy and fit. Teacher Rosalie Rucker battles childhood obesity by teaching her students healthy eating habits in a fun, entertaining way.

VFL– Students at Howell High School in Farmingdale play a new kind of football. It’s the Vocabulary Football League. This unique program is modeled after the NFL, and student “players” are drafted to NFL teams where they compete for points on their vocabulary tests. The strength of the VFL is that it encourages both cooperative learning through teamwork and individual achievement through competition.
