Fablehaven – An exciting new author visits New Jersey schools on Read Across America Day. Brandon Mull is the author of the New York Times best-seller series Fablehaven. Considered by many to be the next Harry Potter, the book has become popular among children and their parents. Rush Intermediate School in Cinnaminson is one of 17 New Jersey schools visited by the author.
Easy as Pi - Columbia Elementary in North Hanover Township devotes an entire day to hands on math activities. Math is as Easy as Pi Day is designed to help the third and fourth graders prepare for the NJ ASK. The children rotate from room to room exploring a variety of math projects, including patterns, probability, geometry, data analysis, time, money, fractions and measurement.
KIC - Salem County holds its 10th Annual Kids’ Inquiry Conference (KIC) at Salem Community College. Approx. 700 students (grades 1-5), teachers, and chaperones, from Salem County schools, will participate in a day of science fun. Students present projects, participate in a hands-on demo, and see a science show. KIC is patterned after professional science conferences.
Tenafly Teen PEP - Tenafly High School participates in a New Jersey Teen Prevention Education Program (Teen PEP) to promote sexual health and peer education initiatives that enable high school students to make healthy decisions. The students give workshops on issues ranging from dating violence to homophobia. The peer educators take proactive steps in helping peers and parents face these issues head on.
