Stem CellsStem Cells – Bergen County Academies is a vocational school for gifted and talented students, who are being prepared for vocations of the 21st century and beyond. A new Biotechnology Lab for Stem Cell Research provides students with hands-on experience where they perform medical research and diagnostic procedures in a scientific setting.

Trout in the Classroom – Inner city students at Passaic High School learn about marine life by raising trout in their classroom. This is a collaborative effort between participating schools, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, and Trout Unlimited, a conservation based organization dedicated to the protection of cold water salmonid species.

Book Club – Haviland Avenue School (Audubon) sixth graders and their parents are part of a book club that focuses on the book, The Misfits. This book club not only helps parents understand the kind of bullying, name calling and harassment that today’s children face, it also provides parents and children with a common language for discussing good literature.

Cuisine with a Theme – A unique book-of-the-month club that teachers started years ago has turned into a culinary event that melds literature and cuisine. The Food Services Curriculum at Cherry Hill High School West decided to spice up the book club by offering lunch, and a chance for the students to practice their culinary skills.
