Tenafly Dance – Is dance art or physical education? For nearly 300 students from Tenafly Middle School, it’s both. And it’s required by the Core Curriculum Content Standards to be taught in all New Jersey school districts. Dance teaches discipline, improves cardiovascular fitness and fine motor skills, and helps students enjoy positive interaction with peers. The Tenafly Dance program grows in popularity each year.In this segment, students perform the Tarantella (Italy), Tinikling (Philippines), the Samoan Sasa (Samoan Islands), and the Virginia Reel (USA).
Center for Teaching & Learning – In an effort to boost math scores in New Jersey, NJEA facilitated a Center for Teaching and Learning and awarded three grants for Middle School math teachers. Fanny Rittenberg School in Egg Harbor City received one of the grants allowing the math teachers to set up a professional learning community. They have access to a math fellow to transform the math instruction, and in a short time, they’ve already seen results.
Green Building – New Jersey science teachers attend the Liberty Science Center Teacher Connection, a workshop that focuses on Global Warming, energy conservation, and Skyscrapers. The teachers will hear from an architect and an engineer who built a net zero electric (green) building.
Quality Cup – Salem County Career & Technical High School participates in the 35th annual quality Cup of Excellence. This student-driven event provides an opportunity for students to apply the skills they learn in their academic classroom, and in their career technical education program.
