ROCK – Students at Old Farmers
Road School in Washington Township (Morris County) improve their literacy
skills with the help of exceptional friends. Special education students read
out loud to a therapy dog who serves as a non-judgmental listener. This program
is funded through the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in
Education.
Inaugural Ball – Frelinghuysen Elementary School converts into the White
House for an inaugural ball for dozens of past presidents and first ladies.
The students step back into history to research not only past elections but
past wars for this school wide event.
FLASH – Fun, Learning and Sensational Happening is the name of an after
school TV production club. The club is made up of fourth and fifth graders
from Woodland Elementary school in Somerset City.
Charity – Meet Blake Wheale, a senior at Kinnelon High School who started
a charitable organization called Turkey’s 4 U to help feed the people
in need during the holidays. This young man caught the eye of
Debra Eckert Casha, a lawyer, a New Jersey State School Board member and a
community activist in Montville. She believes this young man represents the
best of what New Jersey youth have to offer.
