Highly Qualified – Eileen
Aviss-Spedding, with the New Jersey Department of Education, will explain
how the state is working hard to help teachers meet the new federal requirements
in the No Child Left Behind Act. Thomas Moore, the president of the Trenton
Education Association, shares the challenges that Trenton school employees
face in meeting those new requirements.
World Languages – The High
Technology High School, a career academy of the Monmouth County Vocational
School district, is being recognized for its outstanding world language program.
See how the students master the languages of Spanish, French and Latin.
Middle College – Imagine a public school where high school students
and teachers can receive undergraduate credits. Emerson Jr. Sr. High School
teacher Clifford Brooks focuses on Italian and Islamic studies while his
students earn college credit.
Ocean Night – A month-long program on marine sciences culminates with
an Ocean Night for students and parents from Pohatcong Township Elementary
School. This school in Phillipsburg may not be located on the ocean, but
their understanding of marine sciences earned this school the title of MARE
New School of the Year.
