Teasing
& Bullying - Bullying is the most common form
of violence in our society according to the National
Association of School Psychologists. In response, the
NJ State Bar Foundation created a program on conflict
resolution. Educators at Robert Frost Elementary in
East Brunswick have been using this program and have
seen positive results.
Storytelling
- Communication students from Monmouth University and
members of the Atlantic Highlands Leo Club (the Junior
Lions Club) visit Atlantic Highlands Elementary to tell
stories with a moral and character-building lesson.

TIPS
- Students at Burlington Co Special Services School
Dist. Mt. Holly are participating in a program called
Teens Interacting Positively with Seniors. The teachers
work with multiply handicapped 7-12th graders with learning
disabilities or behavioral and emotional problems. These
teens are learning how to interact with senior citizens
and develop an awareness of the older generation. This
program is funded through a grant from the NJEA Frederick
L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education.
Global
Connection - Jill Cerqueira is a World History and
World Geography teacher at Holmdel High School. She
founded a program called Global Connections which creates
friendships between American, Albania and Serbian teenagers.
They exchange letters, interview each other for school
newspapers, make peace mural projects.
