Two
Cultures - Students taking Spanish at Metuchen High
School practiced their language skills with Spanish
speaking first graders at Roosevelt Elementary in New
Brunswick. The high school students wrote and produced
original children's books in Spanish, which they read,
discussed and then presented as a gift to the younger
partners. This exchange in cultures holds benefits for
everyone.
Project
Thank You - What does respect and kindness mean
to young children? The students at James Madison Primary
School in Edison Township can explain. They are learning
all about it as part of "Project Thank You,"
which combines character education with literacy. This
program is funded through a grant from the NJEA Frederick
L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education.
Country
Fair Day - Students at New Egypt Elementary School
celebrate their agricultural heritage by inviting the
community to a Country Fair Day. With parades, square
dancing and old fashion games, the students learn all
about American farm life.
Corporate
Responsibility - Gabriella Morris, president of
the Prudential Foundation, believes that businesses
have a responsibility to the society and more specifically
to their communities. Headquartered in Newark, Prudential
has adopted a school and devoted money, time and resources
to making it the best public school possible.
