Freshman
Discovery - Each year 500 ninth graders take time
from their summer vacation to attend a four-day orientation
session at North Hunterdon and Voorhees high schools
(North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District).
The purpose is to eliminate fears and concerns when
they enter high school on their first day.
Ultimate
Field Trip - Every Wednesday, Special Education
classes at Newton High School visit the YMCA Camp in
Stillwater for some on-the-job work experience. The
students gain work skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
Tournament
Chess - Vineland High School students can learn
the art of tournament chess while gaining credits toward
a high school diploma. This course increases strategic
thinking skills, stimulates intellectual creativity,
and improves problem-solving abilities while raising
self-esteem.
Parental
Involvement - The New Jersey Education Association
is teaming up with the Black Ministers Council to promote
parental involvement in the public schools. The head
of the Black Ministers Council, Rev. Reginald Jackson
will visit Oakwood Avenue School in Orange to discuss
with NJEA President Edie Fulton and the principal of
the school the benefits of this important project.
