MILLENNIUM COMMEMORATIVE CELEBRATION

This
two-hour program covers a celebration of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.'s 71st birthday. Organized by
New Jersey's MLK Commission and held at Rutgers'
Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, this
program featured speakers from various ethnic
communities. Included are Gov. Christine Todd
Whitman, Secretary of State DeForest B. Soaries,
Jr., Dr. Shahid Farooqui, from the American Islamic
Academy, and the keynote speaker was Bishop Donald
Hilliard, Jr., Pastor of The Cathedral Second
Baptist Church in Perth Amboy. Along with the
speakers' tributes to Dr. King, the event also
included a variety of entertainment, most notably
was the Millennium Unity Mass Choir comprised
of 500 members from various churches.
