1999-2000 season

Diane Dayson (1326)

With the National Park Service, she's the Superintendent of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Large and in charge, she explains what that role is and what it means for an African American female. She manages a staff of 500, oversees a twelve million dollar budget, is a mother of two, a mentor to many, and finds time to work on her Ph.D. as well. She gives a little history lesson, and a little tour, on the significance of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as millions flock there each year looking for traces of their immigrant ancestry. Calling her experience a dream come true, Dayson also speaks on her legacy and what comes next.
