Celebrating the contributions of women making
a difference in the worlds of art, music and literature
during Women's History Month.1) Founded in 1994
the Ebony Rainbow Quilters spend much of their
time celebrating the spirit of African American
Culture. Their quilts were on exhibit and the
NJ State Museum. They talk about their love of
the craft, styles and techniques. 2) Meet composer,
performer and conductor Nkeiru Okoye. Born in
Nigeria, this very talented, young woman talks
about her struggle to change the perception of
what a composer is "supposed" to look
like. Learning that determination pays off, she
shares her early experiences as a black female
composer. 3) A new voice in the literary world,
author A.J. Verdelle tackles the African American
experience from a female perspective. Her debut
novel, "The Good Negress" follows a
young woman of the '60's, caught between the paths
of domestic work and academic learning.
