Another View: Mothers in Charge

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 6:30 pm;
Rebroadcast Friday, May 23 at 11:30 pm

Another View hits the streets with Mothers In Charge founder Dorothy Johnson-Speight. When Johnson-Speight's 24-year old son was murdered over a parking space in 2001, she turned her grief into a call for action. In 2003 she founded Mothers In Charge. The group has been on the firing lines rallying, working with legislators, following up on unsolved murders, providing grief support and visiting jails and schools to get to the root of the violence that is plaguing Philadelphia. Now approaching its 5th anniversary, the Philadelphia-based community advocacy and support organization has received national attention and a groundswell of support from hundreds of other women who have lost relatives to violence. Johnson-Speight and other advocates share their personal stories and success strategies they've learned on the front lines while taking back the streets of Philadelphia.
