(1906)

KaSandra's StoryThis month Another View focuses on a prevalent women’s health issue: Uterine Fibroid Tumors.

According to studies, Black women are two to three times more likely to develop uterine fibroid tumors than White, Latino or Asian women. Fibroids also tend to be larger and occur at an earlier age in Black Women. Another View examines why these differences exist and what treatment options are available through the eyes of KaSandra Williams.

When doctors diagnosed KaSandra Williams’ mother with fibroids, she knew that she may have to one day face the same diagnosis. When she began getting pains in her back, her doctor made it clear, just like her mother she had to have fibroid surgery. Hosted by Candace Kelley, Another View follows KaSandra’s journey as she researches her options and faces an inevitable operation to remove her fibroid tumors. From the operating room to the recovery room, viewers will be front and center as KaSandra deals with the challenges of surgery and recovery. Board Certified OB/GYN Dr. Andrea N. Price M.D. performs the surgery and explains management and treatment options. She also explains the choices that women have as they face fertility issues that often accompany fibroids and why Black women are disproportionately affected.
