explores the origins of Jim Crow in the past and
takes a hard look at the present where some say
Jim Crow continues to exist.
Guests
include Princeton University Professor of Religion
Cornel West, Rutgers University Professor
Clement A. Price and well-known Attorney
Johnnie Cochran. A prolific writer and
widely cited scholar, West focuses on the area
where religious thought, social theory and pragmatic
philosophy meet. West's book, Race Matters,
influenced a national dialogue on race.
Price
is Founder and Director of the Rutgers Institute
on Ethnicity Culture and the Modern Experience.
Johnnie Cochran has been an attorney for over
40 years and has worked on groundbreaking cases
in pivotal issues such as civil rights and race
relations.
The
program will also preview an exciting photographic
exhibit by Wendel A. White, Small
Towns, Black Lives African American Communities
in Southern New Jersey. These photographs document
the many Black communities that were formed as
a result of segregation. The exhibit will be on
display at the Noyes
Museum of Art from January 18 through April
27, 2003.
