Black
Women Preachers (1421)
The
history of black women clergy was the focus of
the 21st annual Marion Thompson Wright Lecture
Series, held on Feb. 21, 2001. Another View was
there to hear from speakers on the often-overlooked
role of black women in the church and their struggle
for recognition. We find out who some of these
women were/are and how they have shaped the role
of black women clergy today. We are joined in
the studio by the conference's keynote speaker,
whose book on the subject was inspiration for
the conference, and a NJ historian who further
discuss the significance of the conference along
with their views on the importance of continuing
efforts to research the topic.
Guests - Dr. Bettye Collier -Thomas, Professor
of History, Temple University / Author, "Daughters
of Thunder" - Giles R. Wright, NJ Historical
