MLK
/ Voting (1414)
Just
what would Martin Luther King think if he were
here to witness the presidential election and
the fiasco in Florida? Why are the problems with
voting that were seen in Florida allowed to continue
all over the country? This program examines the
idea of voter disenfranchisement and the need
for reform in the electoral and voting processes.
Guests discuss elements of disenfranchisement
and how those in power use those elements to their
advantage, the need for change in leadership,
and the need for education about the voting process.
They also discuss voter manipulation, registering
to enhance the chances for a particular candidate
verses knowledge of civic involvement and rights.
Suggestions are offered on what needs to be done
to alleviate these kinds of problems in future
elections.
Guests - Lawrence Hamm, Chairperson, People's
Organization for Progress - Carl Sharif, Political
