Sia Nyorkor
Coordinating Producer
Sia Nyorkor is an Emmy award-winning Associate Producer at NJN Public Television and Radio. Sia came to NJN as the 2000 Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Journalism Resident. She was chosen for this position in a national search among other young broadcast journalists. She works on a variety of programs that includes field producing NJN News Election Night Coverage and local segments for the PBS program Zoom.
In 2005, Sia won a United Nations/National Association of Black Journalists fellowship where she covered the elections in Liberia, her parents' native country. She co-produced a half-hour documentary about her experiences that aired to critical acclaim in October 2006 on NJN.
Sia is also a coordinating producer for the Another View Bookshelf, which showcases African-American literary works. In 2004, she earned a CINE Golden Eagle award and a New York Emmy for her work on The Race For Open Space. She graduated in 2000 from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and dual minors in Afro-American and African studies and is now pursuing a Masters of Science at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. Active with the National Association of Black Journalists, Sia served as Vice President-Broadcast of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists from 2002-2004. She is now a mentor for Temple University?s Association of Black Journalists, a member of the Liberian Community Association of Southern New Jersey and a member of public service sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sia now resides in Hudson County, New Jersey.
