Bayshore Artists: Celebrating Our Sense of Place is a 30-minute documentary concerning artists of South Jersey who work in the artistic tradition of the Bayshore region of New Jersey. These artists are influenced by their local environment of water, marsh and sky. All of the artists, Don Friel, glass blower; Belva Prycl, painter; Glenn Rudderow, painter (work shown right); and Pat Witt, painter; are instructors in their art forms. The program enables artists to share their "Sense of Place" and their hopes for the future preservation of this important but fragile natural and cultural landscape.
Bayshore Artists: Celebrating Our Sense of Place takes a look at a diverse group of artists dedicated to promoting the importance of environmental respect and concerns in the Bayshore region of New Jersey. The Bayshore region includes Salem, Cumberland and Upper Cape May counties, where the state's marshes and farmlands are in abundance. Each of the four artists highlighted in the program explore and illustrate this richly defined area through glass and paint.
Pat Witt, famous for her work about the bayshore region, gives us a visual sense of the marshlands and surrounding areas through acrylic and oil.
Don Friel is a glass blower at Wheaton Village in Southern Jersey. His techniques with glass dazzle the eye. He shapes bowls, vases and art pieces.
Glenn Rudderow captures life in the Bayshore countryside with his fine art technique exposing the gentle pastures, farms and barns. He is a talented painter from the marshes and uplands of the Delaware Bay.
Belva Prycl explores the seascapes and marsh through oil and acrylic as well. She is a renowned painter from the marshes and meadows of South Jersey. She is known for her brilliant watercolors and oil paintings. Belva tries to catch the spirit, mood and light of the objects she paints.
Bayshore Artists: Celebrating Our Sense of Place was co-produced by Louis Presti and Jane M. Galetto (Citizens United) and premiered on NJN Monday, October 29, 2001.
