Blind Boys of Alabama. Go Tell It On the Mountain
After performing together for 60 years, the renowned Gospel group the Blind Boys of Alabama released their first-ever holiday recording, Go Tell It on the Mountain , in 2003. The release received a Grammy award for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album, following the groups back-to-back Grammy wins in 2001 for their groundbreaking Spirit of the Century and 2002s critically acclaimed Higher Ground.
The immediate success of Go Tell It on the Mountain was succeeded by a tour with special guests who sang or performed on the CD. In December 2003, the Blind Boys, along with ace keyboard player John Medeski, went to New York City to perform a special holiday concert, at the Beacon Theater, along with vocal guests Aaron Neville, Chrissie Hynde, Mavis Staples, and musical guests Michael Franti, Robert Randolph, Charlie Musselwhite, and Duke Robilliard.
A testament to the group’s legacy of foot-stomping gospel.
Airs Friday, January 14 at 9:30 pm.
