| The Big Math for Little Kids Teacher Training Project was initiated by NJN, in collaboration with Big Math for Little Kids developer Dr. Herb Ginsburg, professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, in response to a state goal to have all New Jersey school children ready and able to succeed in Algebra I in ninth grade.
The online professional development modules and accompanying materials are intended to help teachers of preschool children increase math content knowledge, and enhance teaching strategies so students will acquire those math skills and competencies needed to prepare them for more rigorous math instruction in elementary grades and high school.
Based on teacher training workshops sponsored by NJN, this web site provides videos highlighting the engaging math activities covered in the first three (of six) units of the Big Math for Little Kids curriculum: “What are Numbers?,” “The Shape of Things,” and “Patterns Plus.”
It also features an introductory video with Herb Ginsburg, explaining the development of the curriculum, and the discovery of young children’s great capacity, and enthusiasm for learning math. |
