Ready To Lead in Literacy Workshops
NJN conducted Ready To Lead in Literacy Workshops, funded by the Verizon Foundation, this past winter and spring in Newark, East Orange, West New York, Plainfield, Hoboken, Carteret, Elizabeth, Trenton and Stafford Township. The workshops support the PBS Raising Readers project that uses a “Literacy 360” approach, which acknowledges that children’s literacy is strengthened when children are surrounded by an abundance of opportunities to practice and reinforce skills. Workshops for parents and teachers covered key early literacy components, how to support literacy and reading development in the home and how ubiquitous media can support the acquisition of early literacy skills.
