What is Public Health? Many people, if not most, don't
know. Public Health is hand washing, vitamins, asthma
control, maternal/child health, food inspection, water
safety, sanitation just to name a few. |

Tobacco
Menace
Looks at New Jersey's "Smoking: Don't Get Sucked
In" campaign. NJN visits schools to see peer counseling
in action and talks to experts about the dangers of
addiction. NJN talks to patients undergoing chemotherapy
for lung cancer and to Doctors about other diseases
associated with tobacco use.

Seniors:
Aging in Place
Nearly 14% of New Jersey's 8 million residents are seniors,
aged 65 and older. That presents special challenges
for public health here in New Jersey. The main focus:
preserving good health for seniors, promoting physical
activity, encouraging independence, and providing seniors
with a wider range of choices when they need assistance.

Healthy
New Jersey 2010
Healthy NJ 2010 spans 142 health objectives in 19 major
areas. Some of these include, setting targets for eliminating
disease disparities between whites and minorities, reducing
death rates from cancer and heart disease, preventing
HIV transmission, combatting teen violence, improving
access to health care, and promoting wellness. Health
experts and people who have been touched by some of
these issues will be interviewed.
