PFC Alice Pitts (Ferrel), WAAC

PFC Pitts enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps after her older brother joined the Army Air Corps as a pilot.  While serving in North Africa, Pvt. Pitts met her husband-to-be, Luther "Dusty" Ferrel.  They married in 1944 after the Sicily campaign.

As a radio operator, Pvt. Pitts was very proud to have been the person who broadcast some of the first news of the D-Day invasion.  She was in England at the time.  Shortly thereafter she returned home.  Her husband stayed in the service until the end of the war.
