SPEAK OF ME AS I AM: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PAUL ROBESON (link)
Video & Teacher's Guide

Speak of Me as I Am documents the life and times of Paul Robeson. It provides a lesson in American history, social studies, the arts and 20th-century international politics. Paul Robeson's life unfolded against the backdrop of two world wars, the Spanish Civil War, the rise of communism and the decline of colonialism around the world. Robeson spoke out against "Jim Crow" laws throughout his life, demanding equal opportunities for African-Americans long before the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Internationally, he aligned himself with those willing to fight against fascism, and worked tirelessly to bring about the end of colonialism in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. In the fifties, he became a target of McCarthyism.

By studying the units in the teacher's guide, students have the opportunity to explore Robeson's multi-faceted life, learn about the turbulent times during which he lived and examine the important role he played in the 20th century.
