Born in 1911, artist Will Barnet continues to create new works, even while preparing to celebrate his 100th birthday. Barnet is represented in virtually every major public collection in the United States, and is known for work that depicts human figures and animals in daily scenes that verge on the dreamlike. From the 1930s to now, his work has varied in style from the representative to the abstract. STATE OF THE ARTS producer Susan Wallner meets the artist in his studio and explores two new exhibitions of Barnet’s work (The Montclair State University gallery September 21-December 11, 2010 and the Montclair Art Museum February 4 – July 7, 2011). Also interviewed is his son and sometimes curator, artist and Montclair State University professor Peter Barnet.

The Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn is the first stop on the U.S. tour of Cameron Mackintosh's brand new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg's legendary musical, “Les Misérables,” featuring new staging and scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. A smash hit in London, the world's longest-running musical (third longest on Broadway) has been rebooted and retuned to bring Hugo's classic characters to life for a new generation. STATE OF THE ARTS producer Christopher Benincasa visits Paper Mill Playhouse to drop in on rehearsal and talk with director Laurence Connor, set designer Matt Kinley, movement director Michael Ashcroft, and lead actors Lawrence Clayton (Jean Valjean) and Andrew Varela (Javert).
