Voices
from 9-11
America
Together: New Jersey Voices was a statewide initiative
to document and interpret New Jersey's story by reaching
out to students and the public to chronicle the ongoing
story. Recognizing that New Jersey's story is one of
the many diverse voices, NJN invited members of the
community to work side by side with NJN to create a
new archival record, New Jersey's quilt of compassion."
After the
shock of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001,
America as a whole, and especially hard-hit New Jersey
citizens, began to face the future.
In response
to the aftermath of 9/11 New Jersey students, community
groups, artists' and individuals throughout the state
expressed their feelings in poetry, theater, art and
photography. Some chose to construct memorials, both
temporary and permanent, to honor the heroes and victims
of the disasters.
From the
archives of NJN we present some of the reactions of
the citizens of New Jersey. All of these items were
contributed to the archives by the community.
