Hans Dekker
Hans Dekker has served as President of the Community Foundation of New Jersey since June 2003. The community Foundation serves New Jersey and has over $158 million in assets. In 2005 it granted over $14 million to charitable causes.
Mr. Dekker has a background of community foundation and community development work. Prior to the Community Foundation of New Jersey, Mr. Dekker served for four years as the Executive Vice President of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation – a $300 million community Foundation serving Louisiana.
He is a Trustee of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers and in the recent past he served as a member of the Southeastern Council on Foundations’ Community Foundation committee and as a commissioner of the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency. In 2002, Mr. Dekker testified before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Housing and Community Opportunity Committee on the Housing Affordability Act of 2002.
Mr. Dekker grew up in Minnesota. He attended Bares College in Maine. In 1991, he received his Masters Degree in Public Policy from the University of California at Berkeley.
Mr. Dekker is married to Ruth Philipson Dekker. They have two daughters Thea (6) and Elisabeth (4).
