NJN Documentary Highlights Work of Children’s Defense Fund

Statewide – This Another View special offers an extraordinary look at young adults (ages 18 – 25) who are focused, energized and willing to embrace the baton of leadership.  Inspired to Change: An Another View Special will air on NJN on Tuesday, January 19 at 7 pm and rebroadcast on Friday, January 22 at 11:30 pm.

The program was shot on location at the CDF Alex Haley Farm outside of Knoxville in the city of Clinton, Tennessee where the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) held its Youth Advocate Leadership Training (YALT) program in October 2009. This Another View special highlights the work of the CDF and its impassioned commitment to improve the lives of children in America in preparing the next generation of leaders.

The broadcast also explores how the legacy of famed author Alex Haley intersects with the mission of the CDF. The CDF Haley Farm, a beautiful 157-acre farm that once belonged to Alex Haley, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Roots, now serves as a spiritual wellness retreat for the CDF and many of its programs. The CDF Haley Farm is the backdrop for this compelling story of self empowerment and passion for advocacy on behalf of children. It is a story that will embrace the hopes and dreams of young adults who are committed to community service and making a difference.

The award-winning show, Another View  is one of NJN’s most highly-regarded programs and the longest-running, African-American series in New Jersey. Now in its 23rd year, Another View  produces quality programs that educate, document, and empower the African-American community.
