Thursday, December 7, beginning at 2 pm (scheduled)

Statewide – NJN will provide live coverage of the New Jersey State Senate debate and vote on Bill S1967, which would legalize gay marriage in New Jersey.  Coverage will be online at njn.net and broadcast on NJN2.  The Senate is expected to convene and begin debate on this historic measure on Thursday, January 7, at 2 pm.

The bill, entitled “The Freedom of Religion and Equality in Civil Marriage Act”, is sponsored by Senators Loretta Weinberg and Raymond Lesniak and co-sponsored by Senators Barbara Buono, Teresa Ruiz, Sandra Cunningham and Nia Gill.  If approved by both houses of the legislature and signed by Governor Jon Corzine before noon of next Tuesday, New Jersey would be the sixth state to allow same-sex unions.
