NJN Public Television Nominated For Three Regional Emmy Awards

Statewide NJN Public Television is pleased to announce that it received three Emmy Award nominations from the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science.  Nominations took place in New York City on February 12, 2009.

Classroom Closeup was nominated for the category of Educational Programming.  Classroom Close-up, NJ is a magazine program focusing on innovative education in New Jersey's public schools. This 30-minute weekly series features the students, teachers, and communities who create and participate in successful school projects and events. Season highlights include arts education, conflict resolution, and literacy programs.The program, which airs on Mondays at 7:00 pm and Saturdays at 9:00 am, is a co-production of the New Jersey Education Association and NJN Public Television, with additional funding provided by PSE&G.   The nominees for this award include Rich Renner, Series Producer; Wanda Swanson, Executive Producer; Kate Megargee and Kevin Ronan Segment Producers and Ed Walters, Director of Photography.

The Second Amendment Finally Defined segment of Due Process was also nominated.  This nomination covers the landmark Heller decision on the Second Amendment addressing the right to own guns. In this edition, Sandra King tracks the longtime fight over gun rights, and its origins in the legends of the Old West with a spirited debate on gun rights.  Nominations for this segment include Sandra King, Executive Producer/Managing Editor, Kristine Ekman, Associate Producer and John Jorgensen, Editor.  NJN’s award-winning weekly series on law and justice issues, Due Process is in its 13th season addressing cutting edge issues like criminal law, civil law, consumer law, and civil liberties law.  Due Process airs on Sundays at 9:30 am and 6:30 pm and again on Tuesdays at 11:30 pm.

NJN also received a nomination for Sandra King in the category of On-camera Talent: Reporter – Special Assignment. Ms. King is the writer, correspondent, managing editor and executive producer for Due Process, now in its decade-long tenure. Over the years, she has been a senior correspondent for NJN News, a producer and host for numerous NJN specials, and producer/director for prize-winning NJN documentaries.

The New York Emmy Award winners will be announced during the 52nd annual awards ceremony at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on Sunday, March 29, 2009. The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science, founded in 1955, is the preeminent membership organization serving the television industry.
