JANICE SELINGER NAMED NJN TEMPORARY ACTING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

STATEWIDE – Janice Selinger, an executive who has been with NJN for nearly thirty years, was appointed to the post of temporary acting executive director on June 30, 2009, by the New Jersey Public Broadcasting Authority’s Board of Commissioners.  Selinger replaces acting executive director and former NJN News senior anchor Kent Manahan, who retired June 30 and now serves on the NJPBA board.

“I had the pleasure of working with Janice for several years as a member of the NJPBA. In her recent role as acting chief operating officer, she efficiently dealt with NJN and board issues. I know how hard she and Kent Manahan have worked over the last seven months in their roles and know she will continue to have the best interests of the staff and New Jerseyans in mind,” remarked Dr. Steven C. Fiske, FACP, acting chair, NJPBA. “Under Janice’s temporary leadership, we will continue to serve the citizenry as the state’s premiere broadcast network as we have for over thirty years.  The NJPBA is conducting a job search and have interviewed several eligible candidates and hope to make a choice in the next few weeks.”

“I believe strongly in NJN’s mission as New Jersey’s public broadcasting network providing the core services of news, public affairs and local programs and specials. It has been a pleasure working closely with Kent Manahan over the last seven months as acting chief operating officer, and it is an honor and a pleasure to manage the Network and the Foundation until a permanent acting executive director is identified. NJN has two dedicated boards and a wonderful, creative staff that produces content about New Jersey that no one else does,” stated Selinger

“Because NJN’s Executive Director has a dual role and serves as president of the NJN Foundation, Janice Selinger also will serve as the Foundation’s temporary acting president,” explained Douglas S. Eakeley, Esq., Chair, NJN Foundation.  “The NJN Foundation Board of Trustees is grateful to have Janice fill this interim position until a permanent acting president of the NJN Foundation is appointed.  Foundation Trustees have been involved in the selection process to replace Kent Manahan, and we look forward to working with the PBA Commissioners to welcome the next acting executive director and acting Foundation president”.

Selinger has been involved with NJN since 1979, where she has held the position of deputy executive director for production and executive producer of national and local documentaries for NJN.  She has won numerous awards including twelve regional Emmy Awards, a 1986 National Headliner Award, a 1989 Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Award, the 1987 Vanguard Award and a National Commendation Award from American Women in Radio and Television.

Since December 2008, Kent Manahan has served as acting executive director and acting Foundation president.  As of this summer, Manahan will continue to stay involved with NJN as a member of the NJPBA.  Manahan was NJN News senior anchor and has been with NJN for more than three decades reporting on issues and events concerning homeland security, politics, education, domestic violence and the elderly.  She is a five-time Emmy-winning journalist as well as a recipient of the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Woman of Achievement Award.
