Another View – How Arts Help New Jersey’s At-Risk Youth on NJN
Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 pm and Friday, May 18 at 11:30 pm

Trenton, NJ – This month, in partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Another View highlights the unique and innovative arts programs striving to redirect the lives of New Jersey’s inner-city youth in Another View of the Arts on NJN Public Television Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 pm and again on Friday, May 18 at 11:30 pm.

This documentary special features New Jersey community-based arts programs dedicated to giving at-risk youngsters a creative outlet for self expression. Looking at programs in both the southern and northern parts of the state – like Perkins Center for the Arts and the Newark Arts Council, Another View of the Arts interviews the students, teachers and art advocates involved with these programs to reveal the commitment they feel to improving the quality of life for at-risk children. Also featured in the half-hour program are GlassRoots, an innovative program providing area youth with opportunities to create glass art and develop entrepreneurial and life skills; and a unique community collaborative arts program, sponsored by the Perkins Center for the Arts, that brings dramatic arts and self expression into the lives of Camden’s youth.

Another View, NJN’s award-winning series dedicated to the African American experience, airs on NJN the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm and is rebroadcast the following Friday at 11:30 pm. Closed captioning is provided. The executive producer of Another View is Linda Coles; coordinating producer is Sia Nyorkor. The program reflects the needs, concerns, and interests of New Jersey’s African American community and communicates important information about current events and issues from an African American perspective. Since its inception twenty years ago, Another View has played a vital role in fulfilling NJN’s commitment to providing New Jersey’s diverse population with quality programs and services that educate, inspire, inform and enlighten.
